HOW DO YOU DETERMINE PRICING?

We thrive on personal relationships. We want to work closely with you to design a seasonal menu that fits your taste. We work directly with our farmers and producers to bring you quality local and, often organic, ingredients and to ensure they’re being paid fairly. Costs will reflect hours spent on an event; when it comes to food, pricing may also depend on the number of proteins, the ratio of hot to cold dishes, and what’s in-season.

 

DO YOU HAVE A MINIMUM HEAD COUNT?

Our events have ranged from intimate dinner parties for 4 to 350 person galas (bigger than that and we’re not the best fit). Please check with our Sales Director for availability.

 

DO YOU HANDLE THE SET-UP AND BREAK-DOWN?

Yes. We, in fact, prefer to plan and coordinate the entire event, and are typically the first to arrive and the last to leave. This includes directing vendors, determining the floor-plan, setting up the vision, and breaking down the entire event at the end. Chive takes good care of all venues and spaces by leaving them just as clean as they were when we arrived. We will remove all compost waste from site and coordinate all rentals to be cleaned and picked up according to venue requirements.

 

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN’T DO?

While we’re happy to suggest folks we’ve enjoyed working with, we do not coordinate the following:

Photographers
Transportation/parking
Musicians
Invitations
Lodging
Venue rental agreements
Audio and video

 

HOW CAN I SAVE MONEY ON MY EVENT?

Chive offers a range of different styles of events, from lunches to cocktail parties to formal sit-down dinners. There is almost always a way to have a lovely event within your budget. However, we do have a couple of unbreakable standards. 1) We will not understaff an event. 2) We will not under-portion (there is nothing worse than running out of food). 3) We will not compromise our sourcing standards.

It is helpful for us to know the budget you’re working with from the beginning in order to provide you with the best options. We can create simple, rustic events or multi-course feasts. Just let us know your needs and we’re happy to work with you on creative solutions while staying within our sustainability mission.

 

WHAT DOES ‘ZERO-WASTE’ MEAN?

Exactly what it sounds like! We manage our waste by composting and recycling everything. We work hard to avoid using non-recyclables in our studio and kitchen, as well as at your event. The majority of off-site catered events result in several large, black bags full of trash headed straight for the landfill. When you choose to work with Chive, you choose to host an environmentally conscious gathering. We divert 3,000 pounds of food waste per month during busy season. We’ve also figured out through our experience how to source and serve the appropriate amount of food for your event without the fear of anyone going hungry or too much going into the compost!

 

HOW DO YOU STOCK YOUR BAR? 

Chive thinks about booze as much as we do food, which is why we prefer to provide you with our distinctive sustainable bar menu. We work with our liquor distributor to bring you the best options for craft beers, locally- and cleanly-made and organic spirits (like Privateer Rum and Berkshire Mountain Distilleries), and sustainably produced wines (domestic and imported). We never offer sodas or beverages containing high-fructose corn syrup. In fact, we make a lot of tasty, non-alcoholic fizzy drinks in-house!

 

HOW DO YOU SOURCE YOUR FLOWERS?

We source our flowers just like we source our food: as seasonal and local as possible. We work closely with and prioritize flower growers in New England. We arrange the flowers right here in our Beverly design studio often using fresh greens, herbs, and moss growing right in our backyard garden. To create arrangements, we choose from our deep stock of vases and containers—most of them vintage or second-life—and if we don’t have something that fits your aesthetic, we’re open to finding a way to add to our inventory. We are scouring for interesting pieces constantly. In addition, we prescribe to alternative methods of preserving flowers and, when possible, donate flowers after events so that they may be enjoyed for the duration of their pretty little lives.

We think picking the right venue for your guests can make or break the vibe of any event. Therefore, we are happy to provide you with a list of venues that we have enjoyed working with and hope to work at again (please see below). Working with venues we have relationships with can help to streamline the planning process. However, working with a new space that’s meaningful to our clients is part of what keeps our job interesting!

 

DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS OR SPECIAL PRICING FOR NON-PROFITS OR FUNDRAISERS?

We are thrilled to partner with community organizations on their fundraisers. We have many relationships with local non-profits and often work together to find creative and budget-friendly solutions. We do offer certain discounted rates for certified non-profit businesses. Please reach out if you’d like to partner with Chive.
